We are aware of the negative attention that some recent media reports have cast on Alice Springs. While this is of great concern to both locals and visitors, the underlying social issues are neither new nor isolated to Alice Springs.
Despite the issues highlighted in the media, the last year has also been one of our busiest tourist seasons, and for good reason. Many good reasons.
Alice Springs is a unique and captivating destination. With stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse wildlife, it offers visitors a range of exciting experiences. Alice Springs is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The town itself also boasts a vibrant art scene, fascinating museums and numerous incredible events.
The Territory and Federal Governments, Alice Springs Town Council, Tourism Central Australia and other local community groups are working together to address problems faced by our town and the broader region. New rules, including restrictions on the purchase, sale, and consumption of alcohol have been implemented to help combat crime. Together with greater police numbers and increased funding in the coming months, measures are in place to help restore our beautiful town.
We sincerely respect the concerns you may have, but ask you to consider travelling to Alice Springs with the same amount of vigilance as you would when visiting large cities or unfamiliar places (keeping valuables hidden, keeping bags close to you, not walking around late at night etc).
We encourage you not to let the recent media attention affect your decision to visit our beautiful region. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have further queries or concerns as you plan your trip to Alice Springs.
