Hale River Homestead at Old Ambalindum is a station stay situated 115km North East of Alice Springs along the Ross Highway in the picturesque East MacDonnell Ranges.

Come and discover the hidden gem of Central Australia. Take a gem tour, visit the historic town of Arltunga, immerse yourself in the history of a working cattle station or just relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery and serene atmosphere.


Surrounded by some spectacular scenery, there are interesting bush walks and mountain biking trails passing beautiful waterholes and a large lake.

Travel out of Alice on the Ross River Highway past Emily and Jessie Gap. Continue along for approximately 70km. Pass Trephina Gorge and take the next left along Arltunga Tourist Drive. Continue on for approximately 50km and turn left at the new road signposted as Hale River Homestead.

The Homestead

Come and stay in the Old Stationhouse and experience life as a Pastoralist in the 1900s with modern comforts!

Sleeps 6 in private rooms; two doubles and one twin, but can accommodate up to ten guests.

Perfect for families, group bookings or couples looking for a romantic getaway.

Facilities include; Fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, 3 bathrooms (one outdoor), laundry, wood burning stove, gas BBQ with outdoor seating , swimming pool and a games room with bar.

The Cottage

The cottage was the original homestead and dates back to the 1900s. Recently renovated it offers a traditional country experience with all modern conveniences.

There are three separate bedrooms; one queen, one double, and a third that has two sets of bunks and a single bed.

Facilities include; Fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, gas BBQ, garden area and veranda with beautiful views of the ranges.
