Starting in Alice Springs, the Red Centre Way is a popular adventure drive through Central Australia taking in many of the areas well-known destinations such as the West MacDonnell Ranges, Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
This drive travels through the beautiful and varied desert landscape where sightings of wild camels and brumbies are common.
The Mereenie Loop Road section of the Red Centre Way is 160 km of gravel from Namatjira Drive turnoff to Kings Canyon 4WD only. A permit is required & must be purchased in person by the designated driver; they are not available online. The permits are valid for three days from the date of issue with cost of $6.60 per vehicle available from King Canyon Discovery Parks Resort or Kings Creek Station if travelling from Kings Canyon. Travelling from Alice Springs the permit is available from the Alice Springs Visitor Information Centre, Standley Chasm or Hermannsburg Community Shop at $5.00.

Cancellation Policy
You will be fully responsible and liable for damages where the vehicle is used;On any road or other surface which is not sealed other than a road under repair or a road notified to you by Hertz unless the Vehicle is a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Vehicle;
When you rent a vehicle from Hertz you are responsible for returning that vehicle to Hertz in the same condition as it was in at the start of the rental with the exception of fair wear and tear. A vehicle Condition Report is incorporated into the rental agreement or a report labelled ‘Vehicle Condition Report’ handed to you at the counter when you collect your vehicle. This report will identify any pre-existing damage that there may be to your vehicle. We ask that you check the condition of your vehicle when you collect it and if there is any discrepancy between its condition and the Vehicle Condition Report you return to the counter and request that the report be amended or a new report be prepared. This practice has been introduced for the peace and mind of our renters and Hertz.
Please note: Refunds will not be given if vehicle is returned early
