What better way to arrive in the stunning Kings Canyon than in the comfort of an air-conditioned, seat reclining bus. There are two primary routes available to get to Kings Canyon by bus - either from Uluru or from Alice Springs - and both are exceptional.
If you’re coming from Uluru, you’ll arrive with red on your shoes and if you’re coming from Alice Springs you might be carrying some stunning artwork. Whichever way you come though, you’re going to see beautiful scenery, witness expert information from highly experienced guides and you’ll arrive rested and ready for a Kings Canyon adventure.
Kings Canyon is a stunning place that should be on everyone's Central Australia to do list. However there are only a couple of ways for visitors to experience Kings Canyon.
1) Self drive [use your own or hire a car].
2) Fly [helicopter/small plane scenic flight only] - see more about this here.
3) BUS TOUR!
Transfers to Kings Canyon are offered by AAT Kings from Uluru only.
Transfers from Kings Canyon are offered by AAT Kings to Alice Springs and Uluru.
These services operate on selected days only.
Day tours to Kings Canyon are currently only offered from Uluru (Ayers Rock Resort), and NOT Alice Springs.
This one day tour is an early start (4/4:30am) run by AAT Kings from Ayers Rock Resort. You'll stop at Kings Creek Station for a cooked breakfast to fuel up before you head off with your guide to walk the Kings Canyon Rim (a 6km hike that starts with a 500 step incline before you reach the top and enjoy panoramic views of the desert plains and the canyon). If the Rim Walk isn't for you, the Kings Creek Walk might be more your style, the leisurely stroll takes you into the canyon to see the sheer cliffs from down below. The other reason you might opt for this walk is that it'll give you the extra time to join a scenic helicopter flight over the canyon and George Gill Ranges. Enjoy lunch at Kings Canyon Resort, and if you've packed your swimmers you can even take a dip in the resort pool. Jump back on the bus for the journey back to Ayers Rock Resort.
AAT Kings also offer a range of half day and full day tours at Uluru. Checkout the passes they offer, when you bundle their trips together you actually save money! Add Kings Canyon to your itinerary so maximise your savings.
With Mulgas Adventure you can be sure to be apart of a great group of people on this 3 day, 2 night trip. Start from Alice Springs (6am) or Ayers Rock Airport (1pm), however must finish in Alice Springs. Enjoy the roadtrip to Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park and explore the iconic Uluru with a guided walk, before later getting to witness the sunset over the rock with a glass of bubbles. You head back to camp for a warm meal and sleep under the stars in a swag. Start day two early to catch the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta before taking on the Valley of the Winds Walk followed by a delicious lunch. Head back onto the bus to start the journey towards Kings Canyon, camp is setup at Kings Creek Station for a traditional BBQ dinner by the campfire, once again under the stars. On your final day you get to venture into the canyon to do the Rim Walk, before heading back to Alice.
This 4 day, 3 night tour follows the same itinerary as the 3 day tour (above) but with a little extra for the third night. After completing the Rim Walk, you'll head back to Kings Creek Station for a chance to relax and have a dip in the pool. In the evening you will move on to your next camp location: a private bush camp at Curtin Springs Station. Enjoy the sunset views over Mt Conner (otherwise referred to as 'fool-uru') and the company of your bus crew. The final day is a cruisy morning, with a tasty cooked breakfast. This tour offers pickup and drop off opportunities from Alice Springs and Ayers Rock Airport.
