Camping old

camping2With its sweeping desert panoramas, iconic natural attractions, 'off the beaten track' locations and mind-blowing night skies, Central Australia is the ideal region for a camping holiday.

Camping offers the kind of freedom that is hard to top. Hit the road and wind your way through National Parks and stunning desert landscapes. Discover an endless array of beautiful campsites, scattered throughout the National Parks and Reserves so you'll have no trouble finding an idyllic place to rest your head. Just be sure to stay within the designated camping areas. If you need a bit more civilisation and want to enjoy some outback hospitality with your stay, select from a terrific range of caravan and tourist parks. If you plan to stay at a particular caravan park or campground, be sure to book well ahead of time or arrive early, especially during peak periods like school holidays and long weekends.

For those that want to sleep out under the stars but are travelling light, there are a number of local tour companies that specialise in overnight camping trips. With a range of fully catered itineraries to choose from or specially designed charters to suit your style of travel, you can get the whole experience without the hassle. Let their drivers/guides lead you through Central Australia's most iconic destinations and perhaps reveal a few backyard secrets along the way.

Please note that it is illegal to camp in unstructured sites in the Northern Territory. Please respect the traditional lands of the Red Centre and only camp in the designated areas. You can find more information on camping regulations here.
